Oswego County DA warns of rocks in Halloween candy in town of Mexico

MEXICO, N.Y. -- Two people who took their children trick-or-treating in The Town of Mexico received rocks in a box of Dots candy Wednesday night, according to Oswego County District Attorney Greg Oakes.

The parents checked a box of candy and found that the box had been opened, the candy had been replaced with rocks and the box was resealed, Oakes said.

A separate "constituent" also told Oakes a bag of M&Ms received in the Town of Mexico was also tampered with, Oakes said. It's unclear if the M&Ms and the Dots candy came from the same person or are connected, Oakes said.

Oakes asks that parents who took their children trick-or-treating in the Town of Mexico check their children's candy packages because the rocks can pose a safety or choking hazard.
